Hot pixel on M8 - is it fixable?

I just bought an used M8 and it has a hot pixel. I wonder if it is permanent or can it be fixed? The seller will pay the cost to have it fixed if it can be fixed. What are the cost? I thought i send it to Leica.

I had the same problem with my s/h M8 and considered having it fixed/mapped out too. Until I saw that Lightroom 3 just removes it automagically in the develop mode. Now I just don't care any more.

Send to leica for remapping.

Absolutely send it to Leica. It usually degenerates into a vertical line of color as the issue gets progressively worse. You could probably push it to do that now at 1250 ISO and a bit of underexposure.
You may get a warranty extension after repair depending upon your location.

Lightroom 3 removes it automatically.

I'm sure there's probably a dozen of them if you go through a JPG at 100%. Try to count them all!

Fretting over a pixel is crazy. It's no different than dust spots and hairs/fibers working with film. And it's a lot easier to fix a bad pixel than a dust spot on a print. Nothing in the world is ever perfect. And I doubt the photos of your cat/daughter/local laundromat will suffer from one bad pixel.

No, it's not too disturbing, but since it was sold as perfect (he said no hot pixels) and the seller agrees to pay the service, i might as well have it done.

If you are in North America and determined to send it in. Send it to Leica NJ. I have dealt with them in the past as well as quite recently. The people there are very quick to communicate and turn things around. It was has been a pleasant experience every time.
Personally I have ignored hot/dead pixels. LR and Aperture eliminate them quite handily and not in a clumsy way (you'll never notice).
Even if you have this one mapped others will likely pop up somewhere. The question is more a matter of do you want to send the camera in when you could just as well use it as it is ?

I went ahead and sent the camera to Leica, they ended up finding a couple of things to fix with the camera. The seller paid it all, 570 Euro, so I'm glad I sent it. I'm also glad that the seller proved to be a stand up guy.

Good for you! Its nice to see the are still honest people in the world. And even if it would not really be necessary from a practical point of view, you basically had a full service for free!
