Just posting a wild idea here (that hopefully Mr. K will see) for a couple of fast Voigtlander lenses to fit the x-pan/TX-2. They could be simply adaptations of the M42 lenses and do not have to cover the 24x65 format, just the 24x36.

I want them to cover the 24x65 format, otherwise, whatr's really the point? I can alwayd carry a second camera body for a "normal" 35mm lens.

how about an M mount adapter for the xpan to cover the standard format. That would make it one very exciting camera!

Currently available Xpan adapters have no focus linkage. How would you focus a fast non-xpan lens at wide apertures - there would need to be some mechanism to link to the RF on the Xpan?

It does at first seem reasonable to adapt other medium format lenses, at least those that would adequately cover the diagonal of the 24x65mm frame. But they'd necessarily be scale focus only... maybe ok for landscape work. I'd think Hasselblad lenses might be a natural, and there are some that would be intriguing to use on the XPan. If there were viewfinders. Hmmm... "If I had some eggs I could have some ham and eggs if I had some ham."

Speed is what I have leicas for...oh, wow, if I had speed with my xpanII why would I need my leicas? Oh, holy cow! Can we get fast xpan lenses? Please, can we? I'll trade my leicas...! Some dreams can't come true...

There was a guy on Pnet that was machining leica lenses to work fully with the Xpan, but not for pano, just 35.. not sure what happened to him!

I don't see the point of going to the effort and expense to do this unless it covers the full panoramic image. The beauty and utility of the XPan is lost if you're just using it as a straight 35mm camera all the time - there are much better, smaller, lighter, cheaper alternatives that have plenty of fast lenses available.
That said, a 45/2 or 1.4 that worked on full panoramic would be EXCELLENT!

Smile-inducing idea! How about f/2.8? I note that the diagonal of the 24x65mm XPan frame is 69.3mm, so any suitable lens would have to cover a circle of that diameter. Coincidentally, the diagonal of the 645 (56x41.5mm) format is 69.7mm. Looks like any lens meant for 645 would cover the XPan format too.GrahamWelland said:
Mmmm... Along with the f/3.5 35mm rectilinear for the Pentax 645 there are nice f/2.8 choices in 45, 55, and 75mm for instance. One stop extra is attractive. Then wasn't there an 80mm Mamiya at f/1.9 or f/2? These might be adapted to the XPan body for scale focus, but a focusing-coupled mount would be challenging.
