How about a good laugh

Well, it's kind of attractive. In the same way a toaster or Kitchen Aid mixer is. I doubt someone will pay $5k for it.

Scarey, but I kinda like this one. It's rather more tasteful than the Luftwaffe fakes, at least ...

Belongs in the glove compartment of a woody station wagon.

OMG... This Ivory Kiev reaches rff.com...

Saw this one alive in Moscow in the most unadequate shop, price was $40000 (no jokes)

OK, I'll bite. I know diddley-squat about Contaxes - what are the tell-tales that it's a Kiev under that?

The paint on the lens is a bit distemper-brush, but otherwise it looks like a nice job of work - if you think Ilford Advocate it fit's the period look, and the comment about a woody station wagon is spot on. Wouldn't look bad next to my C3 Matchmatic. Just need to knock rather a lot of 0s off the price... Oh, and find some 1950s thing to snap - the Matchmatic keeps drawing me to beige things - scary!

Looks to me like it has a Contax back, given the raised bails on the bottom of the camera. IIRC, the bails on the Kiev are flat. The rest of it has Kiev features, such as no feathers on the arrow on the rewind knob, and no raised rim on the frame counter dail next to the winding knob. The bezel on the front of the lens looks unlike any CZJ Contax lens I have ever seen, either.

Funny thing is, CZJ is supposed to have made 4 or 5 Contax cameras in this hideous color scheme in 1947 or 1948, but never produced them for sale.

ah ah ah !! It's really one of the ugliest camera I ever seen ;-)

Dexdog, I didn't understand what you say about the "Kiev items": my Kiev II (1955) has the feathers, and an " O " in the middle of the arrow, ( well, something like this: >>-- O ---> ) and the raised rim on the frame counter.
...Perhaps a Kiev 4 is more similar to the "creamy Contax" ?

I hope he's got one in avocado.

As for the price, my guess is a misplaced decimal point. Probably it should be where the comma is. After the 6.

I don't dispute that these features were on some Kievs, especially the first version of the Kiev II and Kiev III- it's just that the lack of these features means that it is not a Contax. I believe that the later versions of the Kiev lacked the raised rim and feathers on the arrow.

And as a child of the 70´s in Europe.....

And as a child of the 70´s in Europe.....

As a child of the 70's, the color scheme reminded me of something far worse...
seeing cars like that on in American soaps made me disbelief that America exists ...just to compare in the seventies my family bought a VW Beetle...

Why didn´t they find Rommels desert camera finally! The color would be the same just in matte...:D
