How about a video of the making of M9 parts in Portugal

I see from the online video of unpacking and adjusting the M9 in Solms Germany that most of the M9 comes from Portugal. I would love to see a video of how 80-90% of the camera is actually made. I know some have taken a tour there, and would love to see a video tour. I know sometime next year I will be near Braga Portugal (my wife, Maria, is Portuguese, and her home town Santa Maria is not far from the Leica plant in Northern Portugal), and I will probably have my M9 by then, and I would love a tour myself.

Leica does not want to disrupt their 'hand assembled in Germany' image with a video of it being 'machine made in Portugal'.

It all started a few decades ago. Portuguese labor costs were less than German and it was also a way to help a relatively poor country to start manufacturing high grade products. It was to be a win/win situation. Germans set up the factory and trained the workers. The main thing you'd notice right away is less blond haired workers.

I have not seen too many blond haired workers at the german Leica factory either. 🙂
