<The problem with w/nw is that people sometimes start themes so specialized they're the only ones who can participate. Or you'd get 5-10 threads started at the same time so it began to skew the discussion threads.>

Good point as well. That could be solved by putting them out the main RFF page, just as it happens with the 'and now for something completely different' section.

OTH, if they are going to cause more hassle than anything, we have the gallery itself, so, no problemo :)

And I think w/nw as it was used in Pnet means words/no words

Yes that's right. Somebody (I forget who) invented it a couple of years back. My understanding is that it is mainly used on the Street & Doc (formerly people) forum and the Leica forum. There is a special "No words" forum as well. The basic idea is that most replies include a picture inline. Words can optionally be included as well.

The bump feature will make it work a lot better than on pnet.
not to mention the almost complete lack of snobbiness here :)
Oh and the other Leica forum rubbish is missing here as well ;-)

For the sake of disc space, it would be good to encourage people to link
pictures from their galleries (or galleries on other sites perhaps). Is there a way to make this trivially easy so that it is the preferred option? Probably not without a heap of programming :)

Thanks, James. It is easy... just click on the 'insert image' icon on the top of the reply box (it looks like a postcard) and paste the URL of your image there.

I started typing and realized how old this post was, but figure it might help others anyway.
