Since google has photographed most of the streets at least in the west I thought I would pick a favorite city then using the google street view pick nice compositions and so on that i find appealing and then take a screen shot of that. After that turn those into b&w.

For example I just took screen shot of this google street view of some beach in Rio.

Nice composition, where were you standing? 😀😀

Isn't that cheating? 😉

At least you won't get hassled, or arrested 😀

I try it....., It is cheaper than buying a Leica and a 35mm...
We all have computers by now.

Indeed, those google lenses are creamy and have no distortion at all. lol

is it cheating? i guess that depends on one's definition of what is street photography and since there is no definition for street photography it logically follows that everything is permitted.

You may spend as much time online as you would walking the street. It saves on airfare to exotic places. I like the idea though, there is so much on google that doesn't get noticed. I think it is an entirely valid position as an artist to reveal the gems.
I saw a short film once that was an animation of shots downloaded from a public Swiss traffic camera. They were night shots down a snowy alpine road that had only a very occasional passing car. It was rather eery and beautiful.

there you go, the cat is out of the bag.

finding gems on google street view is as much an artistic endeavor as walking on the streets and trying to find those gems.

those gems, gotta find them all...

If it matters, you could also go and 're-visit' those locations, stand on a ladder and retake each shot with an 8"x10" camera. But why bother?

Well, while you guys were busy talking about cheating and other such stuff. I just went virtually to Whistler BC and took this picture.

In the words of Alec Guinness in The Bridge on the River Kwai.

"God! what have I done!"

both of you guys don't have a link to some sample of your work otherwise one could take you seriously. 🙂

good or bad, no big deal, as long as you're a photographer and not some gear-fondler trying to pass as a photographer.
