How celebs ruin camera pricing for us

I was in a sports store looking at baseball caps a couple months ago.

I had my M5 around my shoulder and the manager behind the counter noticed it and asked about it. I told him what it was and he explained that he was looking at Contax T2's and other Contax point and shoots online as well as other Leicas. He thought that the Leica stuff was super expensive but still was back and forth on whether to spend 600-800 on a point and shoot.

Not sure what the hype was. Either way I told him he should look at the Contax G series if he wants full auto or Minolta CLE if he wants to start into the world of M glass.

A clean G1 with lens can be had for less than a T2 and arguably produce better pictures. CLE with voigtlander lens can be had for not much more than a T2 with the capability of putting some really good glass on in the future.

I sold my perfect Contax T3 a few years ago for very little money before I rediscovered film..
But I really don't like AF cameras that you have no idea what really is in focus (as everything in the vf image is always in focus) so...
I guess I'm trying to make myself feel better about that jacka$$ decision!

I'm a big fan of the current wave of interest in film compacts.

After selling a T3, a T2, Leica Mini Zoom, Yashica t3 and 4 and a handful of others, I bought a Canon 6d, 7D, Ricoh GRII and the wide conversion lens.

Mostly back ups for my front line digital gear, but I'm very happy with the trade.

One thing about fads, they rarely last long so if you have one of these cameras you had better get it up for sale quickly or you will miss the boat.

I also heard that she is actually a film fan having used a K1000 and a couple of different point and shoots.

Serious props to her for that.

And ya know, all griping aside, a celeb pushing film photography really is a good thing. It's one thing when old farts like us do it, but when someone young and famous is out there, it can only help. Fad or no fad.

At least she lowered the centerline of the lens to the center of his face for the sitting portrait shot. If she'd just angled it down, amateur. I don't care what they all buy, but her photos might be interesting. Are the Fallon shots she took posted anywhere?

Agreed. Buy now! I seem to recall a photo of Sharon Stone or a different celeb holding a G1 back in the 90's.

I don't care much for her, but give her a break...

Not a shelf queen camera
Uses film
No chimping allowed

I'd say that's an improvement for the snapchat generation. If they all want to get contax film cameras and raise prices, fine with me. Perhaps I can sell that old ST for a few grand in a couple of years.😀

doesn't need to be a celeb to jack prices up.

youtube reviewers, ken, and others do the job just as well.

my own review of the Ricoh R1 did this (as the price raised threefold since i wrote about it) so needless to say even though I used a lot of cameras back then (for dirt cheap) i wont be writing any more reviews in the future for any of them (and there are some comparisons i been itching to do too)

The problem was never the bodies, it's the glass that's costly.

I agree.

This is terrible.

It should be stopped.

Immediately.

We just cannot have all these popular celebrities buying and using film cameras right out in front of everybody.

People might start buying film again.

😀
