The M9's a difficult single ticket financial proposition for most hobbyists : €5500/£4850/$7500.
For a single item that would amount to my 3rd largest purchase ever ( after the house and car ).

But if I tally up my gradual incremental investment in M lenses over 20 years ( VC/Zeiss/Leica ),
I'm left with £7500 and that's with a good mix of new and second hand lenses and trading up/down/in/out over time.
The new replacement cost works out at around €£10,000/$15K
It certainly does not take many ASPH lenses to reach to the M9 cost

So my lens are worth two M9s .... Does that justify it ? ... maybe next year then.

So the poll - Who else is similarly committed : As a proportion of the M9 cost how deeply are you in to M/LTM lenses ?

I have no idea, but one of every focal length from 1955 to 1990 plus a new 90 4.0 and new 50 2.8 plus some uncoated stuff. Some focals are duplicated or quadduplicated.
That means 6 or more 50`s , 6 90`s, 4 35`s. I never sell anything.

Still not buying an M9. Already bought a Nikon Digital.

Why I have an M8 and likely an M9

Why I have an M8 and likely an M9

I have the following:

15mm Super Wide Heliar (new)
28mm Elmarit Canadian
35mm Summicron Canadian V4 "King of Bokeh"
50mm Summicron (late 1990's)
40mm Nokton
50mm Noctilux (late 1990's)
90mm Tele Elmarit (1980)
135mm Elmarit with eyes
280 Telyt (Visoflex)
Visoflex 2, and 3

Some Russian stuff too
50mm Jupiter 8
50mm Industar 61 LD
90mm Jupiter 9

So if I add all of this up, it can buy a nice used car! I
I have been colecting since 1991, all were bought used.
When I bought the M8, another friend of mine who was a pro thought I was nuts, and should have bought Nikon or Canon.
How could I? I told him it would have cost way more to replace these lenses (if possible, Noctilux cannot, as well as some of the others) with top of the line pro Nikon or Canon plus a pro body. The M8 was cheaper, as will be the M9 to my calculations. My M9 purchase will be after Tax season, maybe July or August 2010. I like to wait to when the fuss dies down, and Leica has had some time to correct any problems that may arise.

Brian, J3 is even better on M8.
At least, you can shoot wide open at 1/8000.
Save your money for M10.
