When I use the manage attachments and upload a file from my PC,
it shows as an thumbnail attachment which you have to click on to view.

Other posters get their pic displayed directly, right in the post.

Can someone enlighten me how to do that?

Pretty basic I asume but it doesn't seem to be covered in the FAQs

Just click the "Insert Image" button (the little landscape) and paste the URL of the picture. That's it. Of course, the picture has to be uploaded first somewhere like flickr or the RFF Gallery.

Thanks very much.

So attaching/uploading an image direct o a post in RFF gets you a thumbnail but inserting a url of an image posted elsewhere in advance, even RFF, gets you an image right in the post.

Odd really that they don't just give the same result imho.

I was trying to avoid doing the advance posting, as it just takes so long to upload something then post it separately but....hey ho.

That's how these forum software (that's running on server) typically works. You'll get used to it. Try picasa web. That's free and you don't have to populate your Flickr or RFF gallery with "example" or "what's wrong with this photo" type of stuff.
