Up until today, (flyckr issues), l used to upload to flyckr then resize and finally upload to the RFF gallery. At present l cannot do this, no access to flyckr, so my question is this: how or what software do people use to resize their images, (aprt from flyckr).

Posting images on RFF is sadly much more difficult than it should be. I upload an image from my computer drive to photobucket, then copy its url from there to paste into a post.

I wish this could be remedied. It's so much easier to post pictures into threads at APUG.

for RFF I resize to whatever size/quality to get close to 250k, but I think the limit is 390k.
I upload to my gallery here and within the EXIF window of the pic click on "Click for Photo URL", copy it and paste it to the message.

With any software. Try to first resize to 50% or 25% and then watch the size of the file while setting the JPG compression quality when saving.

On Mac the simplest would be to use Preview. On a PC no idea, GIMP can be used on both Windows and Linux I'd say.

The first digital camera I bought came with a program called Photostudio - I use that to resize, and then upload the picture to Photobucket.

I might get a photobucket account, do you have the free account or pay monthly, is the pay monthly option worth it and or any good

I reduce the size of my image to 800 pix wide at 80% quality using either Gimp or Photoshop, giving me small, ~100kB file sizes. Then I upload them to my own domaine (cheap these days, $25/year!) and post links.

toyed with getting my own website, not sure how to get a domain name/website, any help gratefully accepted

I use the export function in LR
Set the size/dimensions to 1000x1000pixels (results in an image that is 1000 pixels on the longest side).
Set the max size to 370K
Sharping Web/light
sRGB
File type JPEG.
Fairly sure the export function in PS works the same way.
Then upload directly to my RFF gallery.

How is it easier? AFAIK you need to add the link there too. Also, here you have threads that are dedicated to pictures, there are none over at APUG.....

I reduce the size of my pictures to about 6mp in PaintShop Pro before I upload to smugmug. I then let Smugmug deal with the last bit.

I use Gimp or Irfanview or Imagemagick depending on what I have on the pc and what I had to do to get the photo in the pc.

One simple and flexibile solution is to get a hosting account at a site like GoDaddy (or any other), and then install Wordpress.org. The install option will be built into the hosting interface. Then choose a free or purchased theme and you're off.

I use Flickr for posting photos here. I grab the link for the 1024 size and paste it in. Simple.

I also use Flickr as the source for my tumblr. In fact, that's all I use Flickr for - a repository for posting elsewhere. I think I have three Flickr followers.

I upload by 8 or 10 inches on the long side at 100 pixels per inch, to Flickr. Then grab the "share" to BB code link that begins with " H T T P" and ends with ". J P G", with the switch at the end that defines size. Delete the scripting code at the beginning and end of the code if you don't want all the Flickr junk attached. No problem.

It's beyond me that there can't be a small bit of coding installed into the Gallery section - a piece of coding that will automatically resize any size picture to the allowable size for the Gallery. Just what is the problem here?

I use DarkTable which is an open source program to be sort of LightRoom. I use the export function, set the max dimensions to 800x800 .jpg

To post here, I upload to my gallery here, then copy the image link to a post.
