I recently picked up my Zorki 4 again, after beeing unused for a year. It's an early 70's, so no strap lugs on the body.

I cut away the upper part of a original "never-ready" case, and now carry the Zorki in a home-made "Luigi half-case".

But it's crude. Even more crude than the Zorki itself.

I would like, either a better looking half-case, or a tip on how to attach strap lougs on the body.

How do You do?

You can use a wrist strap with a tripod mount. Fedka has some that look pretty cool and you can find them on ebay, although you can also make one yourself and save some $

Well, mine is from 60's and there are strap lugs. So I have taken strap from my broken Minolta XG1. Works fine for me 🙂 It's too heavy to carry on in hand anyway.

How do you carry a Zorki 4 ?........as it's an agricultural implement - perhaps a sack would be appropriate ? 😀.......SORRY! can't resist a little joke in the festive season! 😱

Happy Christmas, Dave.

If elegance of appearance is not too high on your list, you can get some metal rings or some pull tabs from the top of beverage cans and use JB Weld epoxy to bond them to the sides of the camera. Then you can attach a regular camera strap ( a Leica one would be nice) and you are all set. Just kidding. I have a Z4 with no lugs and I just carry it in a small shoulder bag with a velcro closure. Easy to get to and good protection for the camera.

But mine has the lugs 😉

Seriously, if he's still around, give Spiderman a pm. I recall him modding a lugless zorki into a lugged one a few years back.

LOL!! Freeranger you are so funny and pretty good looking to say the least!!!!!!! Too good for the mugs on this forum, chuckle chuckle.....
Mine has the lugs too. I would suggest gettting another one with lugs, Zorki 4's are so cheap
($40-30.00) get one from the early 60's, They are the best - M

Thanks, but it ain't me in the Avatar!!!😉
(I have a face like a bulldog, licking urine off a nettle!)

Spiderman is still around, but it is Spyderman with a Y!

I started of my rangefinder period with a Z4 from Oleg Khalyavin (?sp). It worked fine except for the r/f patch being a bit pale.

I got the local 'high quality' shoe repairer to replace the rivet holding the top part of the case, with a pop stud so that the top can be removed. The bottom half of the case is not really rigid and distorts with movement of the strap, though it was reliable enough for several years.

Thanks for Your tips. I've looked at Fedka and his straps look nice. A soft release, yellow filter and my own christmas present is fixed!

Since I'm in Sweden, sending it to Spiderman seems like a no-option.

I've actually got my Z4 to work OK, with DIY CLA, adjustments etc.

Oh Darn, Well, keep the avatar Freeranger, at least we have something beautiful to look at on rangefinder forum, besides russian camera bodies and lens (chuckle, chuckle....)

A little advice, since the Z4 is one of the cheapest Zorki's, I would sell yours and buy one with straplugs. I bought mine last year for Euro 12, and it even doesn't look to bad.

What's wrong with original "half-case" ? OK, it is not a "Luigi", but none of my camera bags are Prada. 😉

Well, sometimes I don't need the extra protection that the original case gives, and would like to carry the Zorki 4 "naked". But lacking strap lugs, I really needed tips, wich I've got here.

Also, the half original case doesn't balance so well, and the camera tilts 180 degrees time to time.

And I actually think the design of the Zorki 4 is quite nice, more "Prada" than the original "never-ready" case. 😎

Sometimes the original half-cases stink. No clue where my one that came with the Fed-2 has been stored away - but the smell is disgusting.

Hahaha! true! I solved the russian leather B.O. with a load of Silica-gel. But yes, they do get very stinky in humid environment. But if you carry it around enough in sun and fresh air, it goes away. (Try to leave a pair of quality leather shoes in closed place for 10 years, and see what will happen 😀)

I usually carry it in a shoulder bag, or on a wrist strap, which can be attached on the lug or on the tripod mount. It is light enough to do so...which I cannot say for my Alpha with a G lens..🙄

But must say i preffer the original case whenever I can, seams more protective than anything else.
