I'm sure I'm not alone on this forum in trying to take my camera out with me whenever possible.
My question is - what methods have the fine folk of RFF adopted for easy transport and fast deployment of your chosen camera?
Lately I've been using a Hexar RF and I generally sling mine over my shoulder, sometimes underneath my jacket. I really don't get on with having a camera around my neck. Are there any other options? I wonder if a very small camera bag would suit my needs. I've no idea what's available nowadays, my only bag is from the 1970's.

I usually carry a bag - either a Domke F5XB when I'm carrying light (1-2 lenses and a body, meter, film) or a Domke 802 clone when I'm loaded for bear. Often I'll grab a body with lens and sling it over my shoulder - I use Domke straps for their slip resistance.

My Bessa gets slung over my left shoulder, and hangs under it (not cross-slung around my neck), I generally keep my hand on the top of it, holding the strap and top of camera taut.

I've been thinking about getting coats with bigger pockets and using wyk_penguin's approach.
Is it a bad sign when the clothes you choose is decided by weather the pockets will fit a camera?

Just carry it in my hand, although it does have to get stashed into a bag sometimes when I need my hands so it's not a perfect solution. However it does remove another barrier to missed shots - my finger is always less than an inch from the shutter release so I can just put camera to eye (or not) and fire a shot straight away.
Of course you'll all be having the last laugh when I accidentally drop my M3 into a river or something

These days most of my cameras don't have straps, as I keep them in the bag till needed. Having said that, I do keep my each of my prime 35mm and 2 1/4 cameras on a strap.
I like to carry my 35mm rangefinder and slr on a very short strap, under my left arm. I adjust the strap so that if I have it slung, I can hook my left thumb over the camera/strap and my arm rest at an high angle. That way my arm mostly hides the camera an if I am carrying a bag as well, it will hang below the camera. It's also easier to carry in crowds, busses, etc, without being banged around.
The 2 1/4 is necessarily long for waist level work.
