Well, since English has done away with nearly all use of grammatical gender, how about this? Any camera whose lens needs to be extended to work, gets classified male.

Easy for me: in Spanish, cameras are female. Could never think differently.
In fact, the only thing I dislike about French is that cameras are male. How unromantic!

If they're anything, I think that most of mine would be male. I know this because when I have a day out, those that were left behind don't complain or make my life worse when I get home. This is except for one particular FED2 which just wouldn't work again after being left on the shelf for a weekend. This must be a female, and a moody one too! 😀
