I have owned (in this order) an M2, M4, CL, IIIf, M8, M4-P, IIIf, M9.
I still have only the M4 which I consider the greatest 35mm rangefinder (and sometimes the greatest 35mm camera) ever made. If you ask me, there isn't an upgrade from a Leica M4.

Here here. My m7 sees more use due to sheer convenience but nothing is as refined as an M4.

None of the options.

I don't plan to upgrade my M4-P unless one day it just stop working, then it'd be a replacement, not an upgrade.

If I decided to get a digital M, then my M4-P will stay as I don't see the need to sell it for money, and I would still use it anyways.

All right. It finally happened. I sold my M7 and my M6 then purchased my Monochrom. Now I can finally vote.

I hard to tell only one way to upgrade gear.

For expensive things like my m9 i had to let go my m8 upgrade, my ZI, Konica HRF and various lenses.

But for some lenses i just buy them directly without cashing in anything.

What i´ve been doing is to downgrade my gear.

I let go all my expensive fast glass in favor of small slow glass in order to focus on picture quality.

So i´m upgrading on concepts and downgrading on gear.

I don't sell Leica because too often I read of regrets and re-purchases.

I have voted buying before selling but i sell if I have too much stuff but i never have too much stuff but too less Leica gear . :bang:

Ha ha To sell any Leica . It is not my way . Have a m6 bought about 15years ago. Then about 4-5 years ago bout M8 and upgraded to M8.2. and i am planning to save for a Monochrome as i feel it not an upgrade but a different concept that gives more flexibility to improve my photography.😀
