Alberto Moreu used a Contax G2 + TLA200 for this.

I have a G2 and TLA200 with 45mm G Planar, used it with a new Portra 400 roll a couple of times, but never have I gotten this look.

His look is alot like Jurgen Teller, kind of washed out with gold or yellow in it. How does he do this? Post production? A typical film?

I would think it's done in post or maybe with a gel on a flash. Truth be told I like the rendering of your images more. If you have a TLA360 it might be interesting to put a yellow gel on the large flash as a bounce and keep the direct small flash with no gel.

In both sets of photos, I see strong on camera flash lighting with no ambient light. Can you verbalized what you perceive the difference to be between his photos and yours?

It looks like him and jurgen teller have this yellow overlay or something over them. But I have read that jurgen teller never post processes his images. I did try a very cheap film once, an agfa something and this was the result..

also very washed out and almost that same color toning...

Also I just found out a minute ago that Alberto Moreu uses Schmeckler film.. the cheaper kind... so I'm thinking that it's the type of film that gives this look (the way the film reacts on harsh flash light.)

although... I know for a fact that Jurgen Teller uses Portra 400 and that's the same combo used in my first 2 links.

Schlecker film is similar to Agfa Vista, it's a cheaper Fujicolor.

Schlecker went bankrupt last year. I still have a load of film but don't shoot it anymore. Contact me if you want it Jamie!

Jamie, it's ok that you don't understand how to do the Jurgen Teller look. YOUR look is more important. It's yours. If it matters, I like it better.

Jamie, IMHO the characteristically warm Teller look that's being sought, as approximated by the first example you cite, is likely a 1/4 or 1/2 CTS gel over direct flash. CTS is the straw-coloured equivalent of tungsten CTO. Compared to CTO it emphasizes yellow over red.

Other thoughts:

Grossly overexposing Portra 400 (by 2 or more stops), will introduce a slight yellow tinge.

You can also use Rollei Digibase CN200, which is known for its extremely warm look.

and the "never post processes" is bollocks. Every (colour) image is either scanned or filtered. There goes the "no post processing".

I wonder if he isn't using a ring-flash to get that shadowless direct flash look. That was a very popular technique for fashion photography for a while.

I shot some Fujifilm 400H recently, some photos were a little washed out like the above. If you're scanning, I'd imagine a slight desaturation would do it, and warm it up a little if you want to.

All pictures have post processing. It might be done in PS or or the printer in the lab migth do it for you. But somewhere in the chain a decision is made on contrast, saturation, color etc. automated or not.
If you send your film to a good lab you can instruct them to make this washed out look for you.
