How does one properly read a meter? >>

My fathers Konica S2 has a meter and just wondering if the arm in the meter should match the F stop one sets.

Example:

Overcast day and I set the aperture to 5.6.

If I rotate the shutter speed to 1/8. The meter arm moves to match the aperture setting in the viewing window at 5.6


Or does it really matter as long as it's not to close to the over/under exposure range and sits in the middle

The Konica S2 Auto is shutter-priority. So you would first set the shutter to whatever shutter speed you want (e.g., 1/60), then the meter would suggest an aperture (e.g., f5.6). You would then rotate the dial to f5.6.

Should you set it to f5/.6? It depends on what type of film you are shooting. In general, B&W film has enough latitude to allow you to under/over expose.

Remember: the Konica meter is ALWAYS ON if you do not have a lens cap. Covering the lens with a lens cap turns off the meter. Hoever, the Konica will work continue to work without a battery (you just don't have a meter).

I guess you will have to wait for someone who does or has owned one. Does it have and automatic setting for exposure. I am assuming you have set the film ISO?

EDIT: Sorry, I'm on the Acela, I didn't see the above answer before I posted.

S2 is a shutter priority when set to auto mode, but full manual when you rotate off and into the aperature settings.

In auto. I can only adjust the shutter speed.

No film in the camera yet. Trying out a Yashica GX I got

Just wanted some info on this camera as my father toss the booklet that came with it.

Maybe it is shutter priority. If I set the shutter speed. Regardless of which way I turn the aperature. Doesn't affect the meter.

Will check this camera out after I test my Yashica

The meter is coupled to the shutter. In Auto mode shutter priority, you choose shutter, camera selects aperture for you.

Used manually - whether you input the aperture you want, and then adjust the shutter speed, until the meter displays your desired aperture - or set a shutter speed, and adjust the aperture to match the needle - is really up to you. Both will work just fine, although, as half-step shutter speeds aren't available, a little fine tuning of the aperture may sometimes be needed for more exacting work.

I downloaded the manual for the camera and gave it a quick read through.

Just wish is was the same size as the Yashica GX. It would be twice as nice (and lighter)
