Are the shutter speeds selected by AE mode really stepless from 1/2000th to 8 seconds? How stepless are they? What happens if we use AE lock? Does it lock at a stepless shutter speed, say 1/387th of a second?

Does this mean Aperture Priority metering can be much more precise than manual metering, since the latter can only be decided by at least one stop of shutter speed and/or 1/2nd stop of aperture.

Welcome.

Yes on all questions.

Although I never actually use AE lock. I prefer the +/- compensation for white houses or black cats in cellars sort of situations.

ClaremontPhoto,

Thank you for the clarification.

I was wondering how come I can increase or decrease the exposure compensation by half stop in auto mode while I cannot even achieve the same exposure condition in manual mode. Besides, it just seemed to me something wrong to see no changes in shutter speed readout when I adjust exposure compensation by half a stop in auto mode.

Then suddenly, I found auto mode can actually do more than that. This is a surprise to me, as a newbie in this RF world, who thought "manual control" rules in the "traditional" club as such.

Thanks again.
