How does your spouse or significant other view your G.A.S.?

Just yesterday I was telling my wife how I could get $3700 of Canon 5D and 24-105L-IS for $3000 with the soon-expiring rebates. A saving of $700! She told me if I didn't buy anything, I would save $6000. $3000 on the camera gear and $3000 on diamond earrings. :D

That has made my day in laughing. :D :D :D :D :D Thank you.

I was all happy with doing color slides in 35mm and medium format, when my then-girlfriend / now-wife told me that since I was doing mostly landscapes, I should try large-format photography (with which she experimented in her college days), and while I'm at it, I should try B&W, too.
Well, a couple of large-format cameras and a fully-stocked darkroom later, she's got nothing to say ;)

Once in a while my wife asks "What was in that box yesterday?"
My stock reply is "Oh, just another lenscap (or filter, etc.)."

Ignorance is bliss. ;)

Well- my first M8 she gave me before I gave her a gold watch,I love her for it> - I got the better of the deal, the watch was discounted :D. This second one- I cringe We travel through South Africa this fall. I usually buy some stones and design the jewelry. This time they will be very polite to me in the tax-free, I fear....

My wife has told me that I have bought my last camera; she thinks 55 are enough., especially as my recent photography hasn't been too hot. Somewhere along the way I went from being someone who has picked up a number of cameras over the years to a "collector". I guess I will have to wait a month or so for my next one. She particularly hates clutter something we have plenty of after 35 years of marriage. I also collect kitchen knives, cookware and God knows what else. She has aked me to catalogue things so in case of my demise they can be sold for he proper price. What to do, what to do?

OK, I'm a newby and I think I get the drift of what 'G.A.S" means, but I gotta know, what, exactly, does the acronym G.A.S. stand for?

Flame suit engaged for replies and answers.

If I am excited about it, she is excited about it. She knows it is one more way to keep the income good. If I were not making a living off of it, the amount of gear I have would just be plain wrong, LOL!

I bought my wife a box of Godiva chocolates and a diamond ring for Christmas. Right now I can do no wrong.:D But today when I got home from work she said...Oh Honey I fixed your signature on that camera forum place you go to...Somebody asked you a question?... What is G.A.S.? I kid you not. She reads my post. But overall my wife is very supportive. All I can say is I hope some of your wives don't read yours.:D

Both our Father's were avid photographers, so my Wife understands. She too, knows her way with a rangefinder - her favorite is her Father's Retina II.

No problems here!

And Wayne I just saw your wish list over on Jorges thread and you sure better hope your wife don't read yours.:D

Much better since meeting Ralph, Peter and Joerg at the New England RFF meet last summer. Well, maybe a little bit better. ;)

Now THAT is a thought. I bet if we (non-pros) sold a few prints (to each other), we could tax deduct our GAS...

Laugh, laugh, laugh.

What lies have you been telling her? :D

I tried to be honest with her and she still get mad over a cheap lens, then again I told her I brought one instead of three... :) :) :)

We are not living together yet, can't imagine how would she react in the future. Will just get my stuff deliever to grandma frist... :)

I can't really say I have it anymore. Once I get my hands on a Leica it's a definite possibility that I'll get it back...but for now I have almost everything I want.

I don't have either (spouse or significant other). But the most "significant" people in my life, my dogs and cat, don't care squat how many cameras I buy so long as there's enough time and money left to feed and play with them. They do get tired of posing for my test shots whenever I get a "new" cam, however.:D
