Nokton, it gives me a headache even thinking about the reciprocity calculations for that thing!
You must use awfully long lenses.

That's a 760mm F14 Rodenstock Apo Ronar. Yes that's too much extension, but I was playing around, contemplating longer lens usuage. With 240mm being about normal with a 5x7, this is about a 3X telephoto in this configuration. Set to extreme close-up, yes.
I use a Sinarsix Meter, in the film plane. No calculations.

The best camera is one that still works!
Yes this is a rangefinder forum, but Joe you have to realize that those of us who still get aroused by film SLR's have nowhere as intelligent a place to go. Plus all the other forum's for Film SLR's have such little action compared to RFF.
I'm a little concerned about your use of the word 'aroused' here Akiva!

It really went downhill since SLRs were legalized here. Am sure in some time RFF will get celebrity gossip sub-forum too..
Legalized!!! ... you talk about the humble SLR like it's some dangerous mind altering substance to be kept away from children ... and rangefinder shooters!

Must have something to do with the stepping stone theory; didn't most RF users here start with a SLR ?

Started with an RF 41 years ago when I was 11. Picked up an SLR 2 years later. Used both.

I have to confess that four years ago I didn't actually know what a rangefinder was! :embarrased:

I have to confess that four years ago I didn't actually know what a rangefinder was ... I figured all cameras were like SLR's with a mirror somewhere!

RF's have mirrors. No need being embarrassed.

47 years ago... Kodak Super-127 box camera -> Regula fixed-lens 35 -> Petriflex SLR, Petri & Olympus half-frames -> (3 years later) Pentax SLR, Leica M2, Olympus 35RC... So, I've concurrently had both SLR and "direct view" type cameras from an early point. Still have and use that M2. Cannot recall what happened to that Kodak; maybe I'll stumble across it packed away... BTW, it had a mirror... the reflector for the built-in flash.

I still have the Minolta Hi-Matic 9 from 1969. The Cosina STL1000 wore out, blew the shutter. I bought another one from Ebay. Still have my first Nikon, a Nikkormat FT-2 picked up in 1977. And about 59 that followed. If all 60 of the Nikons ganged up at one time, they could really knock the poopies out of the Canons and Leicas combined. But the Hi-Matic 9 is safe. Everyone loves the HM-9.

my logic 4-5 years ago went, bigger cameras = better cameras. it might have mirror, prism or black hole inside, but camera size matters

Size does matter
Even though it's an amazing piece of kit, I feel like such a tool walking around with my Canon 1D MKIIn and 70-200 F4L. That's like 6 pounds of digi cam
But when I take out one of my Bessas, M3 or 'lil GRDII? Then I'm Batman!

So you ran around with 8x10s on tripods all the time?
