How good is the weather proofing on the new M?

Hello,

Anyone tested the weather proofing on the new M? I don't have much experience with weather-proofed cameras in general so I'm excited to have this option. What are your experiences with water or moisture around it?

i doubt you'll find someone who will volunteerly hold his camera under the shower XDD

but i would also be interested in this.

It is supposed to be "splash-water-proof" As I interpret that it means you will not have to worry about a heavy shower, but it will not resist dunking it. As a matter of fact, the other Ms without any weathersealing label were pretty bad-weather resistant with cameras dropped into rivers surviving etc, so if Leica approves of getting the M wet, that should be pretty good.

I imagine the feature is pretty useless as I am pretty sure that non of the lenses are weather sealed.

It's a brave man that runs a test ...haha

I think the message was that although not of the lenses are officially sealed, they're actually quite weather resistant.

I've let my M get a bit of rain on it, but luckily not been out in any storms :)

I can confirm that. And the M8/9 are not that bad either. Today, whilst skiing, I went into 6 feet of half-thawed snow and as I wear my M9 "naked" on a diagonal strap when out on the slopes, it, with its Summilux 50 asph, emerged dripping. No water penetration at all, and it was not the first time I soaked an M, both digital and film. The worst result I had was a fogged-up viewfinder, never moisture penetration inside the lens or along the mount. I believe Stefan Daniel when he claims narrow tolerances combined with lubricants are sufficient.

i put my M in a bathtub full of water three hours ago. it still looks OK. no patina or anything. (sorry: long day, long week.)
