Hi,

today I got my new Coolscan 9000 (delivered from cameta/USA to Germany) and started with my Kodachromes in the slide holder. The first thing I noticed is the noise! There are three sounds: a silent sirring when the holder is moved quickly, a slightly louder but still "smooth" noise when the holder is sucked in for coarse positioning. And finally, there is a very loud noise from the step motor. It's like a loud 'toc-toc-toc" at a high frequency durig fine-positioning and lower frequencies during scanning (even slower during the second pass when using vuescan's multi exposure). During preview scanning it's more like a strong buzzing.

I already found the Coolscan 5000 a bit loud, but the 9000 is significantly louder. Should I worry?

Btw, being able to use ICE with Kodachromes is really nice :)

Cheers,
Torsten

It's perfectly normal. Everytime I scan something it sounds like there's someone working a sledge hammer in my living room :)

Phew, good to hear! I really feel relieved now :) Let's see how my girlfriend reacts when she returns tonight. She wasn't too fond of the 5000's noise already...
