How Low does the shutter speed go?

I bought a GSN from the Greyhound man.. Great camera, Great Guy.
My band is playing tonight and when I am playing I would like to shoot some shots of the people in the joint. But it is a bar ,so , I don't won't to take $1000.00 worth of Leica gear.. So now the questions:

How low does the shutter go on a GSN or does it stay the same all the time? I would push my film to 1000... Does it read it film setting thru the meter?

Do Frogs have tonsils?
What kind of knife do they use to split atoms?
Do astronauts feet hurt?
Why can't i play the French national anthem with my arm pit?

Thanks Skinny

Officially, the GSNs shutter can open for as long as 30 secs. Some have experienced the shutter staying open longer than that.

I can't say for sure, but once I fired imy GSN in a almost pitch dark room and the shutter stay open for soemewhere around a minute!

Hi Skinny,

I just take along a really cheap (30$) tripod, a 10$ cable release, and shoot some 400 - 800 ASA film for prints. Set the ASA and release the shutter (focus of course) and advance film do it again etc. Good luck.

I have some BW and colour shots in my 'summer in toronto' folder' all shot w a Yashica GSN from the revered Greyhound using the stuff itemized above.

Taking your camera to the bar? That is pretty low ;)

I took my Leica to a bar a number of times; I don't think anybody cared, including my delicate tabbed Summicron 50.

1) some
2) a Ginsu knife
3) only when converted to meters
4) use the right key, get it? eh? eh?

Your taking your Yashica to a bar? Are you going to break the news to the M3? I can hear it now "You took - that - that- YASHICA out, but not me"

That's called "slumming it", Brian! ;)

On really long exposures, mine sometimes announces that the shutter is about to close with a robotic "eee...."

I often take shots in bars....sometimes I bring my camera:)
But seriously. Shooting at ASA 1000 may work if it is a "bright" bar. My bar is too dark for that. If your shutter speed seems way too slow, (you'll just have to guess), you may try setting the camera to flash mode. That will guarantee a shutter speed of 1/30th. And you may need to push the film up a little.
I usually use my canonet and Ilford 3200 @3200, shoot wide open and 1/30th and still get a lot of dark shots.
Of course your bar may vary.

I would take my Leica if I was just going to a bar , but I'm playing so, that brings in a hole different case... I have an upright bass that is worth about $4000.00 dollars that I have to concern myself with ... CDs sales a crowd. and equip. so I have to narrow what important things that I bring.. all it takes is one very sticky fingered As*hole to ruin every thing...

My cedar guitar lost its fight with my GSN. But pretty much everything gets hurt when it collides with the GSN. I guess I need a FSU rangefinder to level the playing field....
