I will getting back into developing BW film again after too many years.

I am trying to figure out how many rolls of 36x I can develop in HC-110 or other developer.

I'm guessing about 7?
I will using a 2 reel daylight tank by Patterson (System 4).

I am trying to budget my cost to 1 gallon (1 pint concentrate), per month.

I typically dump after 1 use.

Thanks

If you use dilution H (half the strength of dilution B) you need 3.8 mL/roll in a steel tank and 4.7 mL/roll in a plastic tank.

I recommend dilution H if you want to use HC110.

If you mix as Kodak says and make 1 gallon of dilution B you should be able to develop 20 rolls in a gallon of HC110 in tanks. See 'Capacity' and remember that a roll of 35 mm film has about the same surface area as an 8x10 inch sheet.

HC110 Dil H will get about 100 rolls per 16oz bottle using one shot.

HC110 costs US$18 a 16 oz bottle over here, so US$.18 per roll. Of course it is probably costs way more over there.

Xtol or Rodinal go a long way when using higher dilutions. 5 liters of Xtol using the minimum of 100ml of stock solution will get you 50 rolls. Rodinal using 1+100 giving each roll of film about 3ml from a 500ml bottle will give you something around 150-160 rolls.

Oh, also remember that Kodak sells two strengths of HC110; in the US it is a lot more concentrated than in Europe. Make sure you identify what HC110 you have before you use it.

What are the differences in contrast with the B or H?
I will be shooting Fuji Acros 100 most likely, since it is a locally available BW film. I do like Fuji Acros BTW. Plus "Plus X" and the "T" max films.

A Side Bar:
Scanning, Plustek 7300, with supplied software, not the "Ai" package, the"Plus" package... Which BW would scan better as a side note.

For daylight shooting Mid-Late afternoon. Sunny to Overcast. I prefer a average contrast so shadows and highlights still hold. (I know exposure is part of the equitation).

It sounds like if I can get 10-12 rolls a month (probably will shoot less), I may have a 2 month supply with a 16oz bottle.

That link was very informative, thanks freakscene

I used to use Microdol X (1:3) in my time. Is there a similar developer that you old timers use as a high definition developer with a not too high contrast?.. (I know development time and agitation has a part in this too... I plan to start at a 1min interval after the 1st 30s at the beginning.

OK, OT
I just downloaded an app for my Droid 2 called "Darkroom Timer"

Free... you can program the whole process from pre-rinse to drying in a stepped sequence with agitation intervals of your choice. Very Cool. and FREE! You can program as many film/developer/dilutions as you want too.

For you Android users, check out the market place and search for "Darkroom Timer" Only one hit will show up. And the Icon is a White Gralab timer !

Depends on the developer, really - and if you replenish or use it one-shot, etc.

I prefer to mix straight out of the bottle with HC-110 (no stock solution) or use one-shot developers like Xtol.

You use it with no dilution, Did you make chart for Temp/Times?
What are your reasons?
Better sharpness? or Softness?
Higher/lower contrast?
Longer/shorter DR?
