How much film do you shoot?

I seem to shoot, on the average, 500+ rolls a/year. Some years more (more travel) but rarely less. 99.9% is black and white. This year has been a "heavy" color year, almost 10 rolls!
At any given time there are 4-5 cameras loaded and ready to go. Most of the film used is 400 iso, TriX, Arista, Double X. All are developed at home.
Interestingly enough, the rate of film used for my own shooting, seems to stay pretty constant - at least since I stopped doing commercial work in the 80'. When I was doing that, "private" stuff was much less. Some kind of photographic saturation probably.

I shoot about 100-125 rolls a year. like Tom, about 90% BW. Almost all Neopan 400, which is still relatively available. I also develop all my BW.

Lets see...according to the markings on my Fixer bottle (mixed 10-18-11) I have developed...

8 rolls of 35mm
40 rolls of 120
8 sheets of 4x5

A lot less than I thought...but that doesn't include any color film...

Ye gads Tom! 500 rolls a year! Do you do all your own processing? Of course from what I have read about Garry Winogrand he would go out for just an afternoon with a 20 roll brick of Tri-X.

The most I ever shot in one day was 100ft. of TX at the Elkart Lake Wi. racetrack. But that was all half-frame with two Pen F cameras, about 1400 frames.

I date all my processed film so it was easy to check. I shoot around 50 a year. Mix of black&white and color slides film. For B&W I process and enlarge at home.
This is not much and I have plenty of film in reserve.

I shoot about 100 rolls a year, but now I'm retired from the day job that will hopefully increase considerably. I develop all my own film, 99% black and white. I must say however I've bought a Fuji x100. Haven't used it yet though. Still trying to get used to the medium format cameras I bought in the previous 6 months. That will result in developing more 120 film.

Tom,

I never thought I would shoot as much film as you in a year. I average 50-60 rolls of B&W a month. Like you I seldom shoot color, but this year I shot 3 rolls of color 220 and 4 rolls of color 120. Perhaps I shoot less than you because I shoot lots of medium format where I only get 8, 10 or 12 shots per roll. Anyways you likely take more shots than me.

Currently have 150 rolls in my fridge that need processing and this Friday and Saturday I'll try to develop about half of them over the two day period.

One of rules that I adhere fairly rigidly is never to have more than 5-10 rolls in the "to be developed" box in the darkroom. Ok, after a trip there can be 50-60 rolls piled up - but then I devote a couple od days to the processing after returning home.
150 rolls is a lot of film to "soup"!!!!!

I have three rolls of 120 (Acros 100) that need developing...I'm not in a panic over them but they do need developing...even if I have, lets say, 15 rolls...that would get me in a bit of a "worry" but what you've got going...I don't know if I could take it...:bang:😱

I want a M2 and a 35/2 - as well as at least a brick or two of TriX to come along.

Tom you are as bad, 500 rolls a year on earth and two bricks forever after.
Mind you the way Kodak are going they will be up there with you just hope they take a coating machine with them.

In my day to day life (going to work and stuff) I usually shoot a roll a day.....on my days off or when I am traveling (in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar etc)..... I can shoot anywhere from 5-10 rolls a day.......but on the average, I would say a roll a day....I am talking about 35mm (Leica)....with my Hasselblad, well that is a whole different story.....

cheers, michael

Chris, I have to assume that every shot taken there will be perfect!
I always thought that if I had been HCB - I would have made up a set of contact sheets with only the "famous" shots - maybe 6 or 7 sheets of 36 exposures and stated "I didn't shoot that much and these are the shots from 1931 to 1990".
Eternity would make it possible to do really long stand development too!

No need to be worry about film ... PlusX and APX100 has already crossed the jordan and will wait for us ... 🙂

Of course, every exposure spot on, no dust on the negs an infinite supply of IXMOO and Nikon reloadables, still, for the time being I'm content to be down here making human mistakes, perfection must be boring.😉

Sam,

Somehow things got away from me, but normally the pile up only gets to 50-60 or a months worth of shooting.

Because I have a girlfriend I have to wait for her to go away on a trip so I can trash our one bedroom apartment. The biggest bottleneck is drying space for film.
