How much is a Summilux 50mm pre-asph worth nowadays?

So today I met this guy selling a 'lux pre-asph, the one focusing to 0,7m with built-in hood, I think that would be the last 'lux version before the ASPH.
Boys it was GORGEOUS! (I'm talking about the lens)
Mint conditions, not even the slightest scratch, complete with box, papers and leather pouch.
I was ravished by that vision!
I put it on my M6 and, wow, it looked good!
I took some pictures, and, aww, the focus ring was so smooth, such a pleasure to use. My old 'cron and the Nokton 35mm in comparison are noticeably stiffer.
The guy is asking 1300 Euros for it.
He said he refused an offer of 1400 Euros some time ago but now needs to chash in so he lowered the asking price.
Is that a fair price for a beauty like that in such a nice condition?

I would say that's a great price. I'm comparing to prices on US ebay, which seem to be in the mid to high $2000's.

If i'm wrong, someone please correct me. I just thought i'd try to help since no one else has answered yet

It is a fair price for a good one. These lenses do not come to market very often. You see one or two on sale only sporadically and they get picked up really fast.

It depends. Most non-owners of the pre-ASPH insist that V2 is the same as pre-ASPH; the difference in price between these range from $200 to about $800 (depends on the state of the lens)

Well, I owned both, Gabe, and agree with those non-owners. And optically, they are the same. In fact, I preferred the older E43, 1m min. focus version, since better build and smaller. Also, the Summilux at close focus has lots of "character" 🙂 So much that for me it was almost unusable at 1m and below due to veiling flare. It's a lens that was made for journalistic purposes, long distance, wide open shots, very high center sharpness at infinity wide open, and from f2 and up, behaving like a Summicron v3. It's not made for close-up bokeh shots ...

0.7m min focus is overrated. If you want to get close, get a Summicron (very high close up performance, in particular the DR), a modified Nikkor 50/1.4 LTM (they are optimized for close focus), or even better, use a tele 🙂

Cheers,

Roland.

Better yet get a SLR -🙂. I've owned all 4 versions. I never could tell any difference between 2 & 3. Subtle differences between 1 and 2. Huge difference with the ASPH.

Tell me how do you take a photo of someone sitting opposite you at a table in a cafe for example, if they are sitting somewhere between 0.7m - 1m (i.e. Typical table width.)

Don't. Move back. Like this:

Done with the v2.

Roland.

The hands look great and the right hand is very sharp.
I'm just curious here, but which Lux is more expensive: 75/1.4 or 50/1.4?

Exactly why 1m close focusing is a complete pain in the !@#@@!

Leica users were able to live with it for 50 years ....

Show us some of these coffee shop pictures, please. 🙂

Yeah, and I forgot: a 75/1.4 at .7m is an entirely different story .....

I liked the v3's close focus, lots of leaning back with the v2 I had first, and now have, that I didn't need to do with the v3.

But the v2 is built better, more metal, less plastic, better glass, less CA, and the longer throw ~180 deg. vs the short ~120 or so of the more plasticy cost cutting of the v3 make the v2 a better lens for me. 1m is a good distance to sit across someone while having coffee.
