just struck me that i have no idea whats an average amount of memory that people carry with them...for use in their digital cameras...

i normally keep a sd card with 8 gigs on it in my x-pro1, but just changed to 16 recently.
in total i have 82 gigs of sd memory and it's usually in my camera bag...in 2 hard cases.

i also have 8 gigs in the x-e1 & rx100...

A lot depends on raw vs jpg vs raw+jpg. Your camera will tell u how many shots left based on your sd card size. U need to figure out average of how many shots per day and how many days on vacation. I normally double the amount.. Then figure out how many storage I need. The worst two things that an happen to u on vacation is dead battery and no storage left plus no store to buy a sd card around.

I was kidding in the other post. Unless u are staying in NYC for a month or u take pictures like crazy, I don't c how u can go thru that much storage.

Less than I did when I was younger ... can't remember what caused it though.

And you are?

I don't recall seeing you around here before ... but judging by your post count you've been here some time!

Ahhh ... in that case I have to say I have never carried more than 16 gigs of storage for the D700. When I go to gallery openings I have one 8gig in the camera and another 8gig as a spare in the bag.

Btw. W/ that much storage... When u fill up,a card remember to flick the write protect tab on the sd card. I do it for two reasons
- don't accidentally erase an sd card that has shots to transfer
- mechanism for knowing which cards have been used versus next available for camera. Even if u put used in different location then in-used, in heat of battle, things can get messed up.

8GB. I had to check. I only shoot jpegs at the moment, but I've never got close to running out.

I do make sure that I carry a spare battery, though.

Used to have 6 x 8GB Panasonic gold cards : but my M9 destroyed one recently :( ( I thought the Panasonic cards were supposed to be trouble free )

I use 2 GB cards, which really helps in my filing/organization system. I shoot only RAW. I usually have ten 2 GB cards with me for any given longer trip. I've not filled them up yet. I guess I don;t get away for long enough.

Multiple (8) 4 gig cards plus 2x 8 gig. Putting all my images on one 32 gig sound like putting all my eggs in one basket. It's just hard to find fast 2 gig cards any more.

Cheers,

R.

I use several 4GB cards to which I have added a couple of 8GB cards and one 16 GB card. I still ave as left over a few 2 GB cards.

I carry my entire lifetime of memories (around 2.5 petabytes) with me where ever I go. The retrieval process is somewhat flawed however.
