Hello fellow RFFers,

About a week ago, I posted this thread in which I offered to help a friend sell his remaining photo equipment from his now defunct camera store:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60703

Well, it's time I posted his Leica equipment for sale. However the problem is I do not know what's a reasonable and realistic price to ask for. I don't want to ask for a price that will prevent it from being sold (and embarrass myself by listing at a ridiculous price that everyone will laugh at -- you know what I mean *cough*ebay*cough*), but at the same time I don't want to just give it away. And if possible, I'd like to keep this off of eBay... too many shady dealings going on there that I'd rather avoid. I definitely want to keep this in the RFF family if at all possible.

So what is this stuff worth brand new, bagged in box, with papers?

- Tri-Elmar 28-35-50mm f/4 E49 (with leather pouch)
- M6 TTL 0.85 (with original hardcase display)
- M6 TTL Titanium (with original hardcase display)

Do the Leica point and shoots have any demand and are they worth very much?
- Digilux 1 (this thing is hideous!)
- Minilux
- C2

I've tried doing my own research on this sort of stuff, however whatever prices I was able to find usually pertain to used equipment or have outdated prices.

Also, does anyone shoot with Rollei 35mm SLRs? I've got a couple Rollei mount Zeiss lenses here that I can't find any information on: 85/1.4 Planar HFT and 28/2 Distagon HFT.

I'd like to post these in the classifieds in the next day or two, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Derrick

put it up here auction style. look at B&H NYC for comparable pricing. if your friend had a store he/she ought to know well current pricing, no?

It's my friend's dad that ran the shop, not actually my friend. Unfortunately I get the impression he wasn't up to date on a lot of the current pricing (at least with these particular items), which could explain why business went south.

The M6TTL .85 is worth $100. I'll take it off your hands for $125, plus shipping. Now that's an offer you'd be crazy to turn down!

Joking aside, I would check out online sellers (B&H, KEH, Popflash, Henry's, etc.) and knock 10% or more off because it's a private sale. Best of luck.

List them first here. Two things: Since you are selling them without warranties or returns they are sold as used. Secondly, when you look at listing you are looking at a price that the seller wishes to obtain. It may not be the final price of the sale, which may be lower depending upon the amount of time the item is listed & or trade in. When you look at a comparable price at a retail store (used) you match condition (obvious) however, in the price you must take into consideration overhead, salaries, etc. which will be adjusted against profit. Your friend who is no longer or never was in the business does not have overhead costs to meet. This is a liquidation. He will more than likely keep a greater percentage of the profit than a store. Putting it another way if you have an item that retails for $100 sitting unused in your closet maybe for years it has no value to you until the day of the sale. The longer you keep the item with inflation in most cases devaluating the item you are loosing money as comparing the item to currency that might me deposited earning 4% interest. Or, whatever hard currency you gain will be a positive cash flow as the business is defunct. Good luck. It looks like you have nice items. Don't agonize over it. Time is money. Set a low market price quickly & everyone will be happy. Again, good luck.

I like to look at Ebay and search the completed listings. It can help set a price range if you are fortunate enough to find a match for your equipment.

The prices you find there should only be used as a guide, however, but it will certainly help judge the popularity of an item and an approximate value.

Don't ask people here for the price.

You will get wildly biased and unrealistic estimates on either end of the "true value" scale.

EBay completed listings are your best bet for true market prices. Or sell them on eBay.

Sell everything "as-is", no warranty.

MAKE SURE you ship anything paid via PayPal with signature confirmation, required, and do not ship to non-confirmed addresses. No exceptions, even if an off-eBay deal such as via the classified. I would insist on US Postal Money order or wire transfer only.

Posting here will set you back all of $5 (US), listed for 30 days. Ebay is a real hassle anymore but still good (KEH too) for getting base pricing.

With base pricing post it here and on PNET. Your cams are standard fare. The Titainium is worth about $1600 and the straight M6 TTL about $1300. The TE will depend if its first/second generation. Good luck.

Thanks, that's pretty close to what I thought would be the going rate for the M6's.

How can I tell whether or not the Tri-Elmar is a first or second generation?

Sartorius mentions only one version of the Tri-Elmar probably because the second one wasn't out by the time his book was published. In his book, the lens has a filter size of 55mm, built-in hood and the serial Nos start from 3753000. If yours shares this traits, it probably belongs to the first generation/version of the Tri-Elmar.

I wish I could help more. Good luck! :)
