Some people like new and different experiences. In the photo world that can be new subjects, new places, or new equipment. So you get something, use it, generate a new experience, and then pass it one. Many creative people get bored easily.

I think I almost never sold anything. But now I'm tempted. But as already said I feel it like selling a good friend...

I buy/sell every few months, but this was before I settled into my current groove. Now I still buy/sell due to GAS and trimming down my collection, but not as often since I have gotten better at controlling my GAS attacks. And I've also settled into a few lens/body combinations that feel comfortable and produce results I love, so that helps a lot.

I spent a while sampling a bunch of lower end gear. Between that and repair projects I need to finish, I've got plenty to sell. The last few months I've felt happier a out what I am using. I still have several purchases in mind but am slowing down.

I usually buy buy buy with the thought that I can just sell something to justify the purchase, but my shelves just keep getting heavier. I think I have developed a personal attachment to every bit of photo related gear I have ever acquired..

I have some mood swings. was buying crazy, then was selling and buying crazy, then stopped completely, and repeat that in 1-2 years time.

My camera body GAS is done [FOR] now. Lens on the other hand...

Only digital when it is time to upgrade
I try to do that, timing it, is tough, I just got the 5D MKIII, but I will * try* to sell it in about 2 1/2 years,
once the rumor mill starts to point to a MKIV for example. But yes, sell without sentimentality - so that I have cash for the new model.

I sell with a view to an upgrade or a change of style. For instance, my Bronica medium format gear went in order to pay for an X100. I doubt I'll part with that though, and I'm not sure that my DSLR kit will be worth anything when I'm done with it, so I'm not seeing any more sales in my near future.

Some things have sentimental value and some don't. For some reason, with photographic equipment I know whether or not it will as soon as I buy it.
