how old am I?

how old am I?

Well, I started out in photography with a Canon AE-1 Program - that may or may not give hints to my age. I've been in medium format for a number of years, and regularly shoot with a Graflex Crown Graphic from the earlier part of the 20th century - I love that camera. Digital came into my life last year and I was very skeptical about it. But I gave it a chance. I recently sold it (digital SLR) to buy a 75mm Fujinon SWD lens for a custom wide angle camera project. I missed film, and that darned digital had attracted me away from film with its low cost and awesome instant gratification. I doubt I'll be welcoming digital back into my life on any level above pocket point'n'shoot. I was born 20 years after 1961. I grew up in the digital age but recognize its shortcomings.

I bought my Leica M6 when I was 22. Today I am 41. My M6 did not need one single repair yet though I have it with me always and took many thousands of pictures. I took pictures in the rain, at minus 30 degrees celsius and at 42 degrees celsius. Maybe it will need some cleaning or adjustment in a few years.

And now, ask your friend, how many years he expects his Canon DSLR to live. Mechanics will not be a big problem, but these cameras are computers... what about drivers, cables, file formats? HIs camera will be worth 1$ in 5 years, my M6 would still be 600$ and more.

28...i've been shooting for about two years....started with a digital cam (canon g3) then went to a nikon f2, then a mamiya c330, hasselblad, speed graphic, rolleiflex 2.8, d100, hexar RF, canon 7, bessa R, leica m2, m4-p, iiia...i've since sold half the cameras to fund the other half, but have gotten a nice tour of very nice cameras...

all i'm left with now is the m2, m4p, iiia for RF
a super speed graphic for 4x5
rollei TLR for medium format
d100 for digital

i think i've finally settled on a kit that should stick around for awhile...

37...I have been using DSLR's for the past couple of years, and got into RF's a couple of months ago, now I feel like I'm 22 again.

This seems to be a good thread to introduce myself: I was born in the same month my Pentax 67 was introduced to the market (and a guy called Neil Armstrong jumped on the moon). That is 17 month before my Linhof Technika was sold to its first owner and 432 months before I got my Leica MP which brought me to this place.

The Leica was supposed to arrive at my London home on 7/7/05. I stayed at home to await the UPS delivery. Had I gone to work instead, I most likely would have been in the tube (= subway for the US reader) at the time of the bomb explosions close to one of the detonations. So I already had a special relationship with my Leica before I actually got it (UPS did not deliver on that day because of the bomb explosions). I am sure this will last :)

I remember waching Neil Armstrong jump on the moon. Had a Canon QL19 at the time. Born in the first half of the 20th Century.

Unbelievably I've been taking photos for 40 years. I started when I was 15 with a Halina 35X and then a Voigtlander Vito B and Practika Super TL. Used lots of RFs, SLRs and TLRs and latterly Digital SLRs but still have a soft spot for old RFs esp Voigtlanders and FSU cams.
I currently have far too many cameras but most are old friends and I still try and use as many as possible, such fun.
