How Olympus nearly collapsed

I never had an OM-1, but I've a few of those throw-away P&S cameras. Not one had an inferior lens, even the Trip 35: wow. I still use my 35RC. I can't believe it.

Even FDR didn't have this good of a camera:

The Trip 35 is a neat little camera, and I had two of them at one time, a minty one and a well used one.

The minty one got smashed to smithereens by baggage handlers unfortunately, partly my fault for not protecting it more in luggage in transit.

I gave my Trip to someone here on RFF. I hope he used it. Unbelievable lens for the original cost. I wish I'd realized at the time how great Olympus was (in 1970s) but I had another small SLR which fit my style.

If you really look at the range of cameras they produced it was the best company that produced an excellent camera for everyone.

I've had 5 really crappy Canon P&S camera, they just were riding on their marketing laurels. As were others.

Speaking of Canon, I always pick the OM 1 over the original Canon F1 for a walk about camera, as the hefty weight of the tank like original F1 always was a handicap.
But the Canon F1N is another story, that thing has everything going for it and I find it very Leica M like in build quality.

I still rate my OM1 as the best camera I've ever used. Great video ... thanks for posting. 🙂
