How quiet is the M9?

For some photography just fine for some of what I shoot, it gets noticed and can change the mood as I work in intimate settings at times, as is the nature of my work.

One thing is the shutter itself. It's, as has been said already, quiet enough. Maybe not as quiet as a film M, but close enough. But I find it strange that noone has pointed out that you on a film camera need to advance the film, and that's not exactly a quiet affair, especially if you have to do it quickly. So even if the re-cocking of the shutter is a little loud, I think it's quieter than the film camera if you consider the speed.

Wishful thinkings here. We can recock the shutter when we want with film Ms. Try to shoot in a church or a court house with both and you'll see what i mean.

You can do the same with an M9. It has a mode where it recocks the shutter only when you release the shutter button.

Yes you can use it in the discrete mode but I still find that noisy compared to the slight, click of an M2.

I just compared it to the M4-P and the M9's shutter is definitely quieter. If I remember right, the M7 is similarly damped. If you can make good use of discreet mode, the M9's shutter will serve you well.

Yes, very nice. M2 is quieter but I use all digital now so it's ok. Maybe the M10 or oh no, the M10-P!
