How rare is the Canon F0.95 50mm?

It depends on condition and mount, most of them can't be put on Leicas' (unless they have been rebuildt). But the examples I have seen have usually gone for about $550. But that's here in Sweden.

Not terribly rare - they seem to go for 500-600 US. Only problem with them is they have a proprietary bayonet that makes them only able to mount on a Canon 7 or 7s RF. Not even on my P without some retooling - adding to the cost.

The Canon 50 1.2 on the otherhand, is a fantastic bargain, usually coming in around 400 - and will fit on any LTM/M mount bodies.

I've read that the specs somewhere on the net and they weren't complementary. I have not owned one. There is a picture in mcKeown's shown mounted on a Canon 7. Not pretty. And, the price appears to be twice that of the f1.4.

I enjoyed using a Canon 50mm/0.95 in some recent testing of 50mm lenses, and I was won over by this amazing lens. I had to use a borrowed Canon 7 with this lens. As mentioned above, a more useful alternative would be a Canon 50mm/1.2.

I followed them on ebay back in Oct-Nov, 2006. The least I saw one sell for was $420. The lens alone is more rare than the lens with Canon 7 body. Together, they were selling for $800 and up. There is a man who will perform the M mount modification for $250 whe I checked in late 2006. All of the above are in the U.S.A. Compared to a Noctilux it's a bargain.

GOOGLE Epson R-D1 Canon 0.95 for a nice set of pictures taken with the lens at ISO 1600.

Rather than converting the lens to M mount, consider buying a 7 or 7s that will mount the lens as built. The 7s is a beutiful camera, built like the proverbial tank. The 7 is slightly less, IMHO, but not noticeably, and much easier to find. Canon sold a lot of them. For the price of the conversion, you can easily find a very decent 7, and still have an original condition lens.
As to scarcity, it's not common, but easily found, if you have the ~$600 asking price for most. Be aware the TV version is different in several respects, and has no RF coupling.... the cam is not present, and the rear element is not cut to allow mounting one. They sell for less, and could be problematic.

A conversion only makes sence if you plan to use it digitally (RD-1,M8).
A Canon 7 costs less than a conversion. Many conversions aren't precisely rangefinder-calibrated, therefore lacking sharpness.
