In the Yashica Electro 35 GS I got recently, the ASA dial on the camera does not appear to be shifting the shutter speed accordingly. For example, if on ISO 100, the red light just turns of at f/8 (while opening the aperture), I would expect it to turn off at f/11 at ISO 200 and at f/16 at ISO 400. Correct? But for both ISO 200 and ISO 400, it turns off at f/11. Appears like the ISO 200 and ISO 400 are similar settings. Is the CdS gone bad? If yes, any idea if and how I can replace with a new one?

Thanks.

It's definitely acting a little funny, but since it's only one stop difference I wouldn't worry. Try it at other ISOs and smaller/wider apertures whilst aiming at a constant light source (like a blank wall). If you see readings that look in the ballpark you're OK. I'm assuming you have a hand held meter that's reliable for a control? If not, one would be good to have. W/ the cost of these cameras being what it is I wouldn't think a meter cell replacement would be cost feasible. Easier and cheaper to just buy another camera.

A hood is pretty much mandatory on these cameras too. Sharp lenses, but really prone to flare if there's any sun in the edges of the shot.

I will check the meter again (I am using a PX 28A battery, 6V).

By replacing the meter I meant if it were possible to buy a CdS cell (of appropriate characteristics) from an electronics supplier and install the new one. Anyhow, if the meter is within a reasonable range, I should be okay with a negative film.

The lens does appear to be nice. The first roll shows nice short distance objects in good focus. Now to look for a lens hood (wish it had a built in at a Konica S2 Auto does) ... or perhaps hack together one myself :)

Thanks.
