I'm not meaning to sound critical of the process. I just can't jump up & down for joy about the release for this camera @ such an outrageous price. I don't read anything Ken wrote that I can disagree with. Sorry! but the Nikon D40 is a much better camera. As far as dollar for dollar goes I want even bring up the Canon 5D mkII.
Hey, I bought a 6 megapixel DSLR about a year ago, and it was outdated then. But then again, I paid $350 dollars for it.
For the price of the "new" RD-1, one can get a Panasonic G1 and an adapter or two, and still have money left over for a few lenses.
And if I have $3k laying about I'd buy the 5D MkII in a heartbeat.

i used to own the 18-200, i used it when i literally couldnt carry anything else
i was never completly happy with the results. i wouldnt say its bad, it is usefull but ken makes it sound like its a mirical of modern lens tech. if its that good why does he bother with anything else
yeah, well i am not the type to scoff at others choices in gear. my point really is that he proudly exclaims "i'd rather use a REAL camera" or whatever nonsense it was and on the other hand covets what we all know is a lens that could hardly be mistaken for "serious".
i am wise to that fella. he should be in publicity.
that would be the contradiction i spoke of

The best camera is one that still works!
Just when the M8 seems to be losiing it's mystical ability to generate angst at it's mere mention ... the RD-1X comes along!
Throw Ken Rockwell into the mix and 'ZING' ... RFF crackles with controversy once more!
I love it ... I really do!

Funny - I'm the opposite. I used to be the first one to call the guy an idiot, but now I'm a convert. I understand his sense of humor (at least I think I do!) and I know why he writes the way he does. He thinks he's speaking to idiots, and in a lot of cases he's right.About two months ago, I would have told you I liked Ken. But then he changed a bit. He started talking about other things like killer robots and Leica, and I thought he lost his mind!
I don't mean the people here of course!
Anyway, his recent articles on film and Leicas, and a bit of reading between the lines, lead me to conclude he's really on the ball.
sorry, i guess i need my own material
i apologise for the offence, you took my relpy wrong, i didnt mean to sound critical of your comments i should really have thanked you for acurate reinforcment my views

I'm a big fan of KR. For whatever reason, he puts a lot of material out there, almost every day, and often in a self-deprecating manner. If some of you detractors can point me to some of your favorite (and "superior") publishers, I'll gladly put them on my daily list. Thanks for a great forum which is also one of my daily checks...

this guy is on what i would concidor the intelegence levels of most of the people who would likely be on here
youcould also check out my blog but it is perhaps a bit basic in terms of content compared to the above and kr
some interesting (at least i like to think so ) bits about modding a few lenses

come on now...the RD1x is just a sad release. why buy a old tech sensor for $3000+ when used M8s are available for less? unless you are a sucker for those dials and winder?
my point really was just about rockwell not the camer its self

Well there you have it, eh? Complaining that an orange costs more than a grape, when you love oranges but don't like grapes seems a bit silly, if not a tad insane.

Ah. I forgot that photography is all about numbers. Well, maybe it is for digiphiles.

I will certainly start being an internet troll around here if people would pay me for it. I don't mind the entire photographic community laughing at what an idiot I am, and what a lousy parody of myself I have become. I might even start making outlandish claims like "There is no reason to ever buy any DSLR, because i found this one point and shoot 35mm camera that i think is sharper than this one DSLR," "No one who sells their photographs is an artist," and "I support my (growing) family through this site." Can I put a paypal donation link in my signature?
