Tried scanning through the user manual. Cannot find anything there nor on the web. Have therefore emailed Epson UK and asked them - they are usually very fast and precise in the answers. This would be good to know.zoom2zoom said:does anyone know of software to check exact actuation on a R-D1..

I don't think the R-D1 writes this to the exif data. The Nikon D100 doesn't, either, fwiw.

you cant via the firmware! the shutter is not wired to the exif, however, if you are the original owner (or if the original owner did not change the progressive file numbering) you can see what number the last shot you took is.

Asked Epson this:

Got this answer:We are having a discussion at rangerfinderforum [...] concerning number of actuations on a camera. I wonder if you could help us out:
- is it possible to check how many actuations were shot on a camera?
- is it possible to reset numbers of actuations?
- how many times is the shutter tested for to work (like 200000 on a Nikon top end camera)
So it looks like there is no way to know - on the upside my demo body only had 8 actuations when I received itWith regard to your enquiry the camera does not record actuation information. Please provide more information regarding point 3. Please be advised Epson do not have information regarding mean time before fail information.
