I was working with some RAW images I shot with my RD-1 last weekend.
Some of them need cropping. However, maybe I'm missing it, but I can't seem to figure out how to crop an image in the Epson software. Everything else seems pretty straightforward.

So, is there a way to crop the image in Epson Photo Raw? Or do I have to go to Lightroom, Photoshop, etc to crop it?

Thanks.

Ellen

I just tried it for the first time in years. I couldn't find a way to crop, nor could I find a reference in the program's documentation.

Some raw converters allow you to crop directly like Capture One. Gives great results with Epson raw files BTW.

Crop is a function I use often when I work with my raw images, be they from my Nikon D300 (NEF) or RD-1. I doubt I'll be using the Epson software much in the future given that it's lacking the ability to crop images.

I think I'll go with Lightroom because Nikon Capture NX certainly won't be able to handle the Epson raw files.

Thanks all for jumping in.

While I use Lightroom on the desktop machine, I have been using iphoto RD1 raw images on my macbook air. Not as many tools, nor is it as subtle as lightroom, but it does work. Years ago I might have gone to apple's apature except it didn't open erf's. Although the price of apple's program has dropped in the past year, I have found no truly compelling reason to switch.
Long way of saying: If you run macs, you can open and work erf's in iphoto.

Wow, did not know that you can use iPhoto for ERF raw files. I'll try it sometime. While iPhoto is not my imaging software of choice, it's good to know that it CAN be used.

Tnx.

i use pse 8 or 9 right now.

After you posted this information, I tried to use my Photoshop Elements 6 on an ERF file, not thinking for a minute that it would work. But, to my great surprise, it worked!

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I honestly would never have tried it had you not suggested PSE.

glad it worked...i have always been more than satisfied with pse...also, i'm just too lazy to learn some new software.
i use it with my nikon d90 also.

LOL. Yep, I know what you mean about learning new software.

But I strongly prefer Nikon Capture NX for the raw NEF files that come out of my D300. Sometimes I'll use PSE for pixel peeping after I've done most of the PP in Capture NX but I don't use it very often and it's only for things that PSE does but Capture NX doesn't do or doesn't do very well.
