The top surface of the top plate of my M6 black chrome has its paint worn down to the zinc by the film advance lever. How do I go about touching up this small area? What paint out there would match most closely with the color and luster of the Leica black chrome?

The Humbrol "satin black" is the best match I can think of but I am not sure you can get it over there. Failing that, try mixing the flat and gloss black enamels from microtools untill you get a good match. Another trick is to use talc the flatten gloss paint slightly.

BTW did you get the CV lens sorted?

Kim, I ordered a spanner tool from Micro-Tools. Hopefully that will be it.. I'd rather not to send it out and have someone else repair it for $100. Especially if it's that simple..

I haven't had to work on a CV yet but if you have problems when the spanner arrives, drop me a line and I wil try to help.

You need to be careful with a lens spanner coming, you will be looking for FSU glass next. 😛

touch up

touch up

i'd venture to say, without having any idea of how much touch up is needed...if it isn't too terribly large an area, one might try a waterproof black sharpie. if it looked horrible it could easily be cleaned off with some alcohol on a q-tip.
my m6, vintage pre-lug bumpers and w leitz roundel, has strap wear about the lugs. before i came to love the chrome showing through patina, i black taped the areas which also served as thin bumpers.

i was just about to say the same thing.

take the "opportunity" to replace it with a new a la carte top plate of your choice, and tweak the lever back into place.

ghost: interesting idea. Am I able to purchase just a a la carte top plate and base plate? It'd be wonderful if I can easily upgrade from the chrome black to black paint! Although since I have the M6 classic, I can only fit MP top plates and I don't know if the RF adjustment screw on the MP top plate will fit the M6 classic design.
