i have a summicron c with an 11251 adapter ring and i read somewhere that the glass from a 39mm filter will fit into the front of the adapter. anyone know how to pop the glass out of a B+W filter without scratching it?

If it has an unscrew ring, you are in luck. Many new ones have a cemented in retainer ring, you might not be able. I tried every available solvent to break one loose. i soaked it alcohol, lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, and acetone. Never tried tolulene as i have little left. All I did was grease up the glass.

You could try cutting through the donor filter at a single point and the prising it away and then cutting the glass out of the filter you want the glass to go into?

The Hoya filters I have are held together by a snap ring, so should be pretty easy to get the glass out of.
As a disclaimer, they are older and I bought them used. So are they assembled the same as current ones? I don't know.

Some filters have a screw retaining ring on the front. Many more recent ones have a sring steel ring behind the element which goes in a slot. These can be a PITA to get out. The more recent B+W ones have the glass fixed firmly in place which is one reason they are so much better than other makes.

A couple of ideas, Use a dremel with a slitting disk to cut the mount from the outside, Use the glass from a cheaper filter or but the glass only. Probably the best method id to contact the makers and just but the glass. They are in the UK but these guys are helpful http://www.srbfilm.co.uk/ I know BDB used to sell the glass and mounts separately as well.

Having re-read the first post, would you not be better looking for the correct size Series filter?
