I've had several people ask me how to post their photos in RFF threads.
Here's how to post photos:
1) The photo needs to be hosted online somewhere. Can be RFF's Gallery (which is free for RFF members), your own website or blog (if you have one), Flickr or other photo hosting service.
These instructions apply to photo hosted anywhere but Flickr. If you use Flickr, the procedure is a little more complex. I made a how-to video showing how to do it, which is on YouTube.
2) Go to the website where your photo is hosted and find the picture. Right Click the photo and choose "Copy Image Location" from the menu that appears. The exact wording of this varies depending on what web browser you use. It may say "Copy Image URL" or "Copy Image Address."
3) In RFF, when you're writing a post, you'll see some little buttons above the text box where you type. One looks like a green landscape picture with the sun in it. That's the "Insert Photo" button. Click it, and a box appears asking you for the image address. Paste in this the Image Location you copied from the website where the photo is hosted. The image will appear in the text box, and you can then type a caption for it if you wish.

What if you don't have a website, blog, Flickr, or other photo hosting service? You can host your photos here on RFF!
The RFF Gallery is open to all RFF members to post their work, for free. You can upload them to the RFF gallery and they'll be visible there, plus you can include them in RFF threads using the procedure I gave in the first post above.

Thank you, Chris. I've found it helpful to remember that the image link address needs to start with "h t t p" and end with ". jpg", because on some hosting sites they will give you another link that won't show on discussion forums as an embedded image.

Most of my preferred images tend to go onto Flickr which at least for pro members makes it easy to post to RFF because it provides a link formatted specifically for Bulletin Boards. This can just be copy/pasted into the text box within RFF when making a post without any further complications. My other site for storage is Imgur which I joined recently. Its not quite so user friendly but it is free (within reason at least - I presume there is a limit) and works well for images I want to post on RFF for some reason but have not made the cut on my Flickr site. In this case the URL is pasted into the little widget in RFF designed for posting images as no doubt explained by Chris's video (which I must admit I have not yet viewed)>

Yes, Flickr is easy with BBcode but I didn’t realize this was only available to Pro subscribers.

I'm not a Flickr pro user and the BB code is easily accessible. I am not a digital native.

One click on arrow pointing right at bottom right of screen
Chose BBcode, highlight, copy and paste into post on forum

I'm not a Pro subscriber to Flickr, I don't post in large numbers, but their BBcode link method works for me. (I'm in the UK, just in case that is relevant). Their conditions are that you link using the approved link as that shows acknowledgement of their provision of the service.
Their rendering of the pictures is good, you can click to select the maximum size for display if you want to examine small detail.

Are there any size parameters? Over the years I've tried to post pictures but have never been successful. Always figured it might be an IQ test too.

It is good to know their BB code is available for non Pro users of Flickr. I was not sure as I have been a pro user as I have been one ever since they introduced their payment system.
