How to ruin a 1935 Agfa folding camera..

Heresy indeed, It's the same with vintage cars, sometimes people turn them into hotrods. If he had but used a non-repairable camera I would mind a lot less.

On the others side, he bought the camera with his own money...he is free to do as he pleases with it in my opinion.

Hmm, last week two friends I brought to a camera show bought camera's like that. They are not intent on destroying them, there is even talk of putting film through them... One of them uses 116 unfortunately, but I've already seen ways to make 120 work in it.

Even with the real world value of these cams so very low, it does not feel right, but hey, it's always better than to chuck 'm in the bin.

Well, using one that is already unusable, you could turn that into a good security camera. Beats other ways I have used web cams as spy cams.

I had to stop reading at the crushing the lens with a screw driver. I wish he had called me. I have a Brownie Hawkeye that would have been easier to molest he could have had.

These old folders are all works of art. They would be good decorations if not 120s. And I will only destroy old 120 folders if I intended to convert them into something useful, thus, giving them an extended life.

Hmm some decades ago peopl coverted rifles into lanmps that are very expensive nowadays....maybe someone will cry out.
The shattering of the lens and the way he describes it sound a bit hannibal Lecter an his Fava bean statement. (tounge betwenn my teeth)

Hey at least the camera is out to be seen again rather than gathering dust inside a forgotten suitcase or cabinet.

On the other hand, if he had used a found Voigtlander Bessa and crushed a perfectly good Apo-Lanthar lens with a screwdriver, I'd choke! :D :D

Wasn't somebody making lamps out of cameras somewhere? As in putting the bulb inside the camera body/lens.
Also, a friend linked me this last night: http://www.shinyshiny.tv/2008/09/geek_chic_of_th_69.html
Just a concept, that one, mind.

I remember seeing that on one of those home improvement shows once -- one of those where they lure you out of town and then sneak in and "redecorate" (screw up, more often than not) your house. The guy had a small collection of classic cameras and they broke the lenses out of the more expensive folders, installed low voltage lights inside the bodies, and used them as "spotlights" to show off some of his collection of cheap rigid-bodied 35mm cameras. The guy's wife was so proud of what she and the decorators had done, as a "gift" for him. Meanwhile the poor guy was standing there trying to look pleased while all the blood was draining out of his face.

Thank god that mug isn't real.

It was a Jgestar... not the best lens

What in the name of god is an 'accordian lense' ??:eek:

Philistine!

Beats me. Closest thing I've ever seen to a lens that folds is a fresnel; not really folded, but it is stepped. That doesn't have one though.

Here's another way to waste useful repair parts, if not working cameras...

"Unbridled passion for cameras," "shaped with love," ... and yet the guy is hacking them up into pieces and wearing the parts. Don't let your sister date this guy.

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?"

In this thread we find out. I may try a spy cam as I mentioned, but I know how to unscrew a lens rather than punch it out with a screwdriver. Even if no other part of the camera is useful, why break that up. I was particularly horrified by the story of the home makeover breaking out lenses of good clasic folders. My wife, who is so wonderful in so many ways, has about the same appreciation for cameras. Heeeeaaalllp!!!

argh... I tried to prevent my Isolette from seeing the pictures but failed to, and now I'm afraid the focusing ring is stuck again!
