I don't think that's so bad. It would likely have ended up in a trash can or at best on a shelf somewhere. This way it's on display at least.
Here's what I did to a 50's vintage Agfa.
I was a heck of a lot more destructive actually...but at least it still shoots film.

Wasn't somebody making lamps out of cameras somewhere? As in putting the bulb inside the camera body/lens.

I had to stop reading at the crushing the lens with a screw driver. I wish he had called me. I have a Brownie Hawkeye that would have been easier to molest he could have had.
