How to - shipping a camera from EU to US

Dear friends,

I am looking for advise on what is the best and safest way of shipping a camera from Europe to US? I like to lend my Leica X1 to a friend in US but don't want to load him with import taxes etc. if the US customs apply based on the value(?) but I still want the camera to reach it's final destination 🙂
Any help and tips are greatly appreciated!

Technically, film cameras are exempt, not necessarily digitals. If you ship it EMS, it's almost certain not to have duties attached, but I'd recommend marking it as a '35mm camera' just in case.
