A brief intro:
Started with my Dad's 70's Pentax SLR. Either the 50mm or more often than not the 135mm fixed tele.
Had a RF that I used as well - but I cannot remember the model.

Used to shot either:
1) low light (Tri-X pushed with peterson perfection developer - or some name like that)
2) or 2415 tech pan pushed with the same developer for more tonal range, usually sports, macro type photos, or candid portrature (if there is such a thing).
(And used Oriental Seagull in the darkroom)

I never did get my own camera as I couldn't quite afford what I wanted, and finally got a point-n-shoot.
One day I stumbled into a lab in SoCal and saw what looked to be a 8foot long test strip of the side of a stucco'ed house and backrground... WTF -is that I asked - and was told "This is from an 8x10 camera".
I picked up my 8x14ish enlargment from the point-n-shoot, and I got a 4x5 shortly thereafter, which produces stunning photos.
I think that I am getting lazy, as I only pull out the 4x5 for trips as it is a pig. I read about people switching to RF from SLR as they are getting lazy (ROFL).
Mostly shoot landscapes or macro'ish things in the foreground.

So I started looking again at small cameras as my daughter asked for a camera for a present.
Luckily I am starting with no lenses, bodies etc.
Looking at R-D1 and M8, as well as Bessa, Hexar, M<=7, etc.
I don't take too many photos per year and would wait for digital if I thought there might be a new R-D1 coming. But I am also fine with Film.

Now the question:
I am thinking that I should try these and see how they work - I can show great photos from about every camera I have used. Just some are every 4th photo and some are every 1000th, but really would like to shoot one for a day to get a better feel as to whether these will produce anything better in my hands than a SLR might.
So where does one rent some of these to see if they seem to be the "bee's knees"?
Anywhere in Australia would work, and I travel to the states regularly as well as Europe/UK occasionally.

Taking a trip to Perth soon and will haul out the 4x5 for that.

Thats a toughy, buttt if you find yourself in the states soon, and in NY haha, these guys rent Leica:
http://www.nycv.com/main-frame/Rentals.htm

I have no idea how they are, never used em, but, they will rent:
M8 - $250 for 3 Days, $500 for a week
M7 - $75 for 3 days, $150 a week
Lenses too.

ALSO, i know you can contact Leica, or look on their site I believe, since they started renting through diff retailers, might find one close to where you are.
