What do you think is the answer? Is it to simply own the best there is in a given class. But then, best is subjective. If you have the best of one make, then you'll most likely want the best of another make. Then there is the Digital, 35mm, medium format quandary where you want to try different formats. There also the desire to try things that are either quirky or although not the best, they are aesthetically pleasing. Maybe the ergonomics are fantastic. Is there any end to it...

The only thing I've found is that an acquisition can relieve GAS for a period of time, mostly a short period. But then it starts to build up again. It doesn't help when nice people like you keep posting on here how great this and that is. Then there is a GAS explosion!

I keep trying to clear out, but somehow end up with more. Let me know if you find a cure. I do know that it would keep my Rolleiflex 2.8E Planar over all the others. So maybe I should just do that?

Hi,
My name is **** and I am a gasaholic 😎

It all started with my first camera, a Kodak Retinette 1a, when I was nine years old, then I dated an Ilford Sportsman briefly, an exotic Russian Zenit and got engaged to a Japanese Canon FTBbn in my teens.... ad nauseum.

The solution is far simpler....

The solution is far simpler....

Only signatory on my checking account is my wife.

My credit and debit cards are frozen in a 5 pound coffee can of water/ice in the freezer (alongside all my film)

Do you have any idea how long you have to ponder a purchase while waiting for all that ice to melt on the table in front of you?

Simply, if the cash is not in your pocket, uncommited to housing and eating... you simply suffer your "gas" until it subsides into the air around you!!

Uncontrolled consumption is why we are where we are.

Retire and live on a fixed income. As me how I know.
Oh, I still acquire the occasional camera or piece of equipment but usually it is something given to me by a person who starts off....'John, I know you like cameras and I wanted to give this to you.' Last item was a Durst 301 enlarger.
Now I just spend on film and paper and that eats up enough of my income.

Keep a needle with you. Every time you take a picture and find yourself thinking more about the camera than the picture you are taking, stick that needle in your non-focussing eye.

Man, you've got that right! When I think of all the combinations and permutations of photo equipment I used to go through!

Back then, I used my photo income to buy photo equipment. Now, I use my photo income to buy groceries.

i try to sell in approximately the same value as the stuff I want to buy. Mostly there is a difference tho (towards spending).
With our ****ty currency I found gear to be more stable .. so GAS is actually good to "freeze assets"

What are you guys GASing for in the moment? I want a Mamiya 7 w/ 65mm and 43mm. Well or a M6 and a 35/2 .. for the whole holiday period I was looking into a M7 (w/ 0.58 finder)

I found that not buying what I really wanted has been a major cause. If you want that M9, get yourself one. Instead I now have a Leica CL, D2, X1, M4-P, M6, M8... all fun too. But too much if you justed wanted that M9.
