how to unscrew the rear element?

Is there a proper tool and method to unscrew the rear element of this lens so that one can avoid an ugly dent on the metal housing, such as the one seen on the right lens?
Would appreciate any suggestions. many thanks.

Yes: get a spanner with tips that fit properly in the grooves (not loose, but not so large that they don't fully seat), make sure the lens is secured and stable, and apply some downward force in addition to rotating the tool. Beyond that, you can try solvent or heat (being careful with either, and especially careful with both in combination) if it's really stuck.

I've used these rubber pieces. Amazon sells them as lens repair tool.

A hair dryer is a good start for heat. Obviously, some care should be taken to avoid uneven or excess heating.

For solvent, Ronsonol is my stand-by. You can use more aggressive things, but I'd avoid that unless you have no other choice.
