how to update M8 firmware?

Hi all - stupid question of the day but I'd appreciate some advice. I've just (yesterday) bought a nice condition M8 that has very old firmware on it, and have been trying to do a firmware update, following the instructions on the Leica website to the letter. When I re-insert the SD card with the update file on it and switch the camera on I get a brief flash of the red LED on the back of the camera but then no prompt on the menu asking me to confirm I want to update the firmware.

Am I missing some magical key step not mentioned in the instructions on the website? I only have the battery about two-thirds charged - could that be it? Do you need a COMPLETELY charged battery for the update to work?

You probabbly used the ZIP file instead of the unzipped
.UPD file. And the .upd file should be in the root, next to the DCIM folder.

I think you may have nailed it Jaap, thank you!

I did unzip the file, but I think I may well have stored the .upd file within the DCIM folder rather than next to it. Will have another go when I finish work tonight and report back. I've never updated firmware on any of my digitals so this is all new to me.
