How to zoom the Contax G Vario-Sonnar 35-70mm zoom?

Hi, All,

Is it correct that, to change the focal length setting of the Contax G Vario-Sonnar 35-70mm, that a user manually rotates the front grip of the lens?

I don't want to be grinding against any gears or motors or anything.

Yes, you manually rotate the zoom ring which is at the front of the lens. It doesn't grind against any gears it's not supposed to as far as I can tell.
