I've had a long passion for both the OM system and the Nikon F-mount; one of my go-to cameras is my OM-1n (after the M4 or Mamiya 6); my first SLR was a Nikon FM2, then an F2A; first DSLR was a D40, then D60, then a D200, before getting rid of them in a fit of 35mm and 120mm film camera lust, but am now looking for a DSLR that I can use my old manual focus lenses on.
These range from OM, Nikkors, to a couple of Hasselblad lenses.
My question is: Is the Nikon D700 a suitable purchase?
I know the better option is to get a 5D MKII as OM and Nikkors can be used very easily with the EOS mount but I'm looking for a Nikon body. This is strictly a full-frame DSLR question. I know the E-5 is likely to be announced in the next few months, along with the D700s/x or some such successor, but I have little need or interest for video capabilities and/or to join the megapixel race. Ideally, I would like a full-frame DSLR with in-body stabilization, but I don't see that happening unless I buy a Sony.
Money is not really an object, though the likes of the D3S are a little superfluous seeing as I don't make money off my photography nor do I feel like lugging that kind of weight around, scaring old people and young children, etc.
Getting a D700 to mount OM lenses opens up a big can of worms though: I know Leitax sells OM to F-mount converts (not adapters) at 62EUR a pop, but that would mean buying several converters to enable me to swap out lenses without having to bring a toolkit each time. It would also mean extra hassle when trying to use them with my OM-1 again.
Perhaps the real question should be: has anyone used the Leitax converter, and how well do they function on a Nikon body?
EDIT: Apologies for the misleading title, I couldn't work out a way to edit it. And I no longer know what the real question actually is anymore!

Get a Canon 5D. Full frame, cheaper than the D700, great picture taker, easy to adapt lenses to it. The end.
