I have an M2 (SN: 11631xx) with the rapid loading system from the M4. This was passed to me from my father-in-law who brought it from Vietnam in the 70s.
In researching this, I found that the M2-R and the M2S had the rapid loader, and I determined that my M2 is the "S" version. Apparently, both the "R" and the "S" are fairly rare. Does this rarity add much (if any) additional value to my M2.
I'm not going to sell it (since it was a gift from my father-in-law), but I'm just curious.

Whatever
Are they denoted as such (M2-R or M2-S) on the top plate? What kind of condition is it in? Does it work?

No, it's marked like a normal M2. Just the M2 and serial number. I only identified it as a M2S from the serial number. Condition is perfect operational condition, but user grade cosmetics (not too bad-just the usual bright marks on the top plate and dings. No scratches).
According to one post I read, there are only 875 of M2S in the entire production run. Not sure if that is accurate, but I had no idea my M2 was so rare.

Here is an interesting discussion on the subject of the M2-S. Maybe this will help you figure it out.

Value compared to a regular M2? Dunno.

That is fascinating, thank you. So based on the info in that link, it seems my M2S is also known as the KS15-4.
