They will be in town next weekend and I have been procrastinating with the sale of a bunch of gear, wonder if their buy prices are much below what gear might fetch on a forum or on ebay?

One way to find out is to go and see what they offer, then compare with their sale price. I'd expect you'd get more here or on eBay. However, if they offer you money it saves the hassle of listing and mailing. There will be a price to pay for that saved effort though.

KEH has a tool on their website to estimate how much they will pay for used gear. You select your type of equipment and certain qualities from drop down lists. The website then gives you an estimate that is later verified by the staff when they receive your gear.

Almost certainly. Most stores sell things at about a 300% to 500% profit. Some stores sell items for much more profit than that. Look at the prices they are selling cameras like yours for and figure on getting 33% or less.
On the other hand, items on ebay also usually sell for under their list prices.

I tried to sell them back a DR 'cron that I had bought from then, and they only offered half of what I paid them for it six months before. Makes sense to me, because they have to double their money on each peice. I'd sell my stuff here rather than to a retailer.

No retail store is going to give you anything approaching cash value for a used item, so there's no point asking.
I was in a music store last week and a girl was trading in her old guitar towards the purchase of a new Martin. The salesman told her flat out that he was going to check current ebay prices, then offer her 50% of that, "store policy."

I think you have profit and markup confused. Even a 100% markup won't generate 100% profit, unless expenses are zero.

I had them quote my M2 just for interest, and they said at best, 425.00, but they will give additional on a trade, so they will add 10% to that quote.
I figure that you can get what you think it's worth, less about 40%..

Thanks a bunch everyone for the replies. I just checked on their website, using a black Contax G2 as an example, if I had one priced in "LN" condition they'd pay $636 and their sale price for one in "EX" condition is $959. Assuming I could sell the gear at a price that's somewhere in-between the two, it's worth it to me to post an ad, I think. Thanks again!

I think their online system is a little off sometimes. When the Noct was on top 5000$+ I think they quoted me 2000$ or so for mine...

at Tarmakin in NYC they openly tell you that they will pay you 60% of their asking price. If they expect to sell your item for $1,000 they will give you $600 for it.

If there are reputable shops in your area, an alternative may be to place your equipment with them on consignment. Usually they take about a 20% cut of the sale price, but it saves you dealing with the public and there's no shipping involved. More than you'd get from KEH, less than from eBay or here.
